Note: Asana = Yoga Pose
The room was quiet when practice began—just the soft hum of breath and the gentle creak of mats settling in. Everyone moved through familiar shapes, bodies remembering the rhythm they’ve learned over weeks and months. There was comfort in that repetition, like returning to a favorite path in the woods.
But today had a different energy. A little spark. A sense of curiosity floating in the air.
As we stood, supported by the chair and next to it, a sudden urge has come to me to let go on the chair and practice a standing asana for my class.
“Today,” you said, “we’re going to explore something new.”
Eyes lifted. Shoulders softened. A few smiles appeared—half excitement, half what are we getting into?
I introduced the new asana slowly, like unveiling a small treasure.
I demonstrated first, not with perfection but with presence, showing how the shape grows from the ground up. Students mirrored me, wobbling, adjusting, laughing quietly at the unfamiliarity. The room felt alive with discovery.
As everyone settled into the posture, something shifted.
The newness wasn’t intimidating anymore—it was empowering.
A reminder that yoga is a living practice, always evolving, always inviting us to meet ourselves in fresh ways.
When I guided them back to neutral, the energy had changed.
People sat taller. Breaths were deeper.
Trying something new had opened a door.
